The Karl-Marx-Allee (2nd construction phase) represents a unique urban testament to the post-war modernity of the GDR. The special character of this urban space, its history with its socio-political implications, and its current development formed the starting point for KISR Karl-Marx-Allee. This situation, with its distinctive history and ongoing plans, provided an exciting terrain for site-specific artistic projects that offered new perspectives on this area.

Background

At the heart of KISR Karl-Marx-Allee were the selected art projects, which offered new perspectives on the history and present of the neighborhood while simultaneously highlighting the value of art in urban space in its diversity. In parallel, various educational activities shed light on the urban, as well as the private, history of the district, including performative walks, lectures, guided tours, a drawing circle, and a podcast series.
