The Artwork
„Gott Miau Miau Avatar Mutter“ is a site-specific intervention in which drawings created by users of the Zille-Haus are transferred onto suitable wall and floor surfaces inside the building using a hand-held engraving machine.
In drawing workshops for young people, families and staff of the house, the focus was on invisible forces that drive communication and community. The central question was: “Who are the people who shape the Zille-Haus?” The barely visible engravings resulting from this were reproduced using frottage (a sheet of paper placed over the surface and traced with a pencil) to create new meanings as time passes. The artist deliberately took a backseat in this participatory process, employing a subtle visual language.

The Artist
Jelena Fužinato is a visual artist who works with multimedia installations and drawing. Her work explores the transformation of spaces, social relationships and emotions. Fužinato studied in Belgrade and Helsinki, amongst other places. Since 2022, she has been director of the Kontextschule in Berlin.

Architecture
The building was constructed in 1972 using solid construction methods involving reinforced concrete and masonry as part of the complex at Rathenower Straße 15–18. The building complex from the 1970s is classified as Brutalist architecture. Between 2010 and 2012, an energy-efficiency refurbishment took place, which included façade insulation, a new coat of paint and the installation of steel windows.

The construction project is being funded by the Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing as part of the Social City programme to the tune of €4.63 million. A total of €20,000.00 is available for the implementation of art in architecture.

The Zille-Haus
The Zille-Haus at Rathenower Str. 17 in 10559 Berlin is a children’s and youth leisure centre with an adjoining theatre area, a family centre and a youth advice centre.
