Simultaneity

In the 1950s and 60s, architects, designers, and artists such as Horst Bauer, Josef Kaiser, Fritz Kühn, and Klaus Wittkugel gave aesthetic form to the utopias of GDR modernity along the Karl-Marx-Allee. The architecture, characterized by the notion of social equality and free-flowing space, reflected visions of the modern socialist system. Building on avant-garde ideas formulated in the 1920s by figures like Le Corbusier and the Bauhaus, they created an environment inspired by future themes, such as space exploration.

For the digital intervention „Simultaneity,“ Joachim Blank, Karl Heinz Jeron, and Sakrowski have assembled a route to 17 selected points. QR codes are provided at each of these points, allowing visitors to view augmented reality objects on their smartphones or tablets. The tour takes visitors to representative locations along the boulevard with their symbolic narratives. In the residential areas behind the main buildings of the Karl-Marx-Allee, the tour leads to more idyllic green spaces, inviting visitors to linger and play, often with a whimsical character.
