Kunst am Bau. . . im Auftrag

Since 1979, art in architecture has been created in accordance with the Building Regulations (ABau) in connection with public construction projects. The State of Berlin is committed to this tradition and aims to further strengthen the significance of art in architecture and art in urban spaces, including its promotion, maintenance and documentation. In recent years, there has been a call for greater user involvement in the creation of art in architecture. At the same time, artists have encountered obstacles in the framework conditions of the tendering procedures when devising participatory approaches.

So how can users be more closely involved in the competition process and in the production of art in public spaces? And, in this way, potentially become mediators of the art itself.

A conversation with Bernd Trasberger, artist and member of the Association for Art and Mediation on behalf of the public, moderated by cultural studies scholar Elke Falat.
