Month of Art in Architecture 2025
The month of June in Berlin’s Mitte district is dedicated to public art. It offers an encounter with art in everyday life, away from museums and galleries. This is because public art is commissioned as part of new-build and renovation projects for public facilities such as schools, youth centres or administrative buildings, amounting to 1% of the construction budget.
Construction-related art is directly linked to architecture and responds to the function, history and social characteristics of the location. As part of a competitive process, artists develop proposals which are then discussed by a jury and put to a vote. As a rule, this jury comprises the client and the architects, the building’s users, as well as the artists.
The Month of Art in Architecture (MKB) offers insights into the complex creative processes behind site-specific artworks through artist talks and guided tours of both historical and more recent works. The programme kicks off on 4 June with the unveiling of “Wo die wilden Tiere wohnen” by artist Stef Heidhues at the 49th Primary School, Adalbertstraße 53, 10179 Berlin.
You are warmly invited to join us on a journey of discovery exploring art in architecture in Berlin’s Mitte district!
All events are free of charge.
