Month of Art in Architecture 2026
The month of June in Berlin’s Mitte district is dedicated to public art. It offers an opportunity to encounter art in everyday life, away from museums and galleries. This is because public art is commissioned as part of new-build and renovation projects for public facilities such as schools, youth centres and administrative buildings, amounting to 1% of the construction budget. Construction-related art is directly linked to architecture and responds to the function, history and social characteristics of the location. As part of a competitive process, artists develop proposals which are then discussed by a jury and put to a vote. As a rule, this jury comprises the client and the architects, the building’s users, as well as the artists.
The Month of Art in Architecture (MKB) offers insights into the complex creative processes behind site-specific artworks through artist talks and guided tours of both historical and more recent works. In 2026, District Mayor Stefanie Remlinger is the patron.
You are warmly invited to embark on a journey of discovery through Art in Architecture in Berlin’s Mitte district!
All events are admission free.
