Musical Lecture: ich bin wie du bist wie ich with Sophie Silverstein + iuri
In *Cocoon*, iuri and Sophie meet: the music and lyrics weave together childhood, questions, and change—a farewell and, at the same time, a new beginning.

We’re meeting iuri and Sophie in Berlin today. The setting: a bar in Wedding, Sophie’s regular haunt, a place of hope for the children they both once were. They perform together, with music by iuri and lyrics by Sophie. Just as they used to play together in the park, that no-man’s-land and that ‘anything-is-possible’ land between their two homes. The performance at Mowe marks the end of one collaboration and the beginning of a new one. Through letters, phone calls, and walks through Wedding, they invite each other into their lives, addressing their childlike “selves” with existential questions. A solemn, celebratory, feverish shedding of skin, a wriggling out of and through their most diverse forms.
About the Artists
Sophie Silverstein (she/her) is an author and bookseller. She can’t decide whether her primary language and work should be in English, German, or Dutch, and enjoys playing with the resulting gaps. She reads and writes about lesbian/queer ways of life and left-wing Jewish political and ritual practices. She is currently translating the novel “The Dyke and the Dybbuk” into German.
iuri (they/iel) is a musician and lives in Basel. They write songs about feverish distortions of the body and the longing to disappear into the gap between mattresses. Their debut album, *Soon*, was released in May 2025. iuri is currently touring Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands.“
