BRINGT EIN PAAR STÜHLE MIT oder lass uns auf dem Boden sitzen, MITEINANDER IN DER STADT VON MORGEN, DAS GUTE LEBEN IM HANSAVIERTEL

The Hansaviertel was built on the belief in the idea of community, which is reflected in the architecture of the buildings, for example in the many integrated communal spaces. Local surveys, supplemented by the findings of a cultural anthropological study of the Hansaviertel conducted in 2007, suggest that the idea of community, although it has failed in some respects, still serves as a very strong point of reference for many residents. The Niemeyer House serves as an ideal example of a well-preserved communal space and a functioning community life. In many other buildings, communal spaces have been reduced and/or are no longer in use.

Through their artistic intervention, Kristina Leko and David Smithson transfer the floor plan of a flat and a communal space in the Niemeyer House onto the lawn in front of it in the form of a ground-based work. However, the supposedly public space is partly privately and partly publicly owned: on the public area, a structural intervention has been approved; on the private area, only a marking using plants and marking tape. The dividing line between public and private space thus becomes visible for the first time.
